#DVMISSION24 48 Hour Film Challenge – Red Boat Films Winner: Best Story Nominated: Best Actress, Best Editing Judges’ comments: A very natural feeling 2 hander, with a lot of pathos and real sense of abandonment at the end as she walks out of the dark into the light of realisation. But who is that knocking? The 2024 DVMISSION 48 Hour Film Challenge celebrated its 19th birthday by inviting challengers to dive into our immersive storyworld “The Great Pompey Heist” at The Wedgewood Rooms, Portsmouth. DVMISSION is a 48-hour film competition based on the south coast of the UK that has for the last 19 years been challenging filmmakers to get creative and join a local community of media makers. Having just staged our 19th edition we can stake a claim to being the longest, continuously running 48-hour film challenge in the UK. How does it work - we give challengers a line of dialogue, a title and a genre and they make a 2-minute film in 48 hours. We then get our judges to award the coveted Pompey Oscars for 16 categories of prizes. This year’s obstructions were: • Title: The Pompey Town Affair • Genre: Heist Movie • Line of Dialogue: “Either we're diving into the abyss together or you're paying me to pretend I never saw it”… “—trust me, it's a long way down from rock bottom, but hey, we might as well dance with fear on the way!" • Added obstruction for previous award winners: banana for scale • Special prize: for any film that passes the Bechdel test We asked teams to post their behind the scenes photos and videos using the hashtag #DVMISSION24 and you can use this hashtag on any social media channel to see the results. For this year’s DVMISSION screening and awards event we returned to The Wedgewood Rooms for a real life event on Saturday 9th March 2024 and staged an amazingly glittering gala awards night.
